Owner Comments:
Winter Variety 27-U. A bit dull for the grade, but clean surfaces and some originality. The 1850-D is one of the scarcest half eagles from this mint. It is seen most often in the EF40 to AU50 range and properly graded AU55 and finer examples are extremely scarce. The 50-D is even scarcer in CAC with 4x55, 1x58 and NONE in MS. This medium green-gold piece is one of the few 1850-D half eagles that hasn't been scrubbed repeatedly. It has some remaining luster and there is dirt in the recesses on the reverse. As on all 1850-D half eagles, this piece shows some weakness on the mintmark but the "D" is fully visible. JD via Doug Winter.
