Owner Comments:
Only 1632 pieces were struck by the Philadelphia mint in 1877. This was the 9th. lowest mintage for any date of Coronet Quarter Eagles. This coin is scarce in all grades and very rare above MS-63. The vast majority of survivors grade AU-58 as does this piece. Apparently the low mintage was recognized shortly after the coins were released and an unusually large percentage were saved after only a short time in circulation. About 12% (perhaps 200 coins or so) of this small mintage survive.
