Owner Comments:
Struck in the early months of 1864, this was the last of the copper nickel cents. These coins were hoarded due to the uncertainties of the outcome of the Civil War and were replaced with a thinner coin made of copper, tin and zinc. The erosion on the surfaces of this coin show that it was struck from heavily worn dies.
