Owner Comments:
The 1878 7 Tail Feathers dollar with the Reverse of 1879 is distinguished by a convex breast on the eagle (versus the flat, or concave breast on the Reverse of 1878), and by the slanting top arrow feather. In the Second Edition (2005) of his A Guide Book of Morgan Dollars: A Complete History and Price Guide, David Bowers estimates the circulation strike mintage of the Reverse of 1879 variety to be 1,500,000 pieces, compared to an estimate of 7,850,000 coins for the Reverse of 1878 variety, which logically helps to account for the greater scarcity of the former issue
