JNDA 01-33. Dragon obverse and rising sun reverse.
At some point in 1871 this design was abandoned. Perhaps it was difficult to maintain the dies, which had already been redone going from shallow to deep scale carvings. Many examples of clashed dies and die cracks can be seen in the 5 sen dragon coins.
16.15 mm in diameter, 0.800 fine silver, weight 1.25 grams.
