NGC US Coin Census for Morgan Dollars (1878-1921)

Owner Comments:

David Bowers (1993) writes that quantities of 1886 dollars were released by the Treasury in the early 1950s and early 1960s. These releases, along with the high original mintage of nearly 20 million pieces, has made the 1886 one of the most common of all Morgan dollars. It is readily available in all grades through MS65, indeed, tens of thousands of 1886 dollars have been certified by NGC and PCGS in grades MS60 through MS65. Even Premium Gems are obtainable with relatively little problem, but MS67 specimens become more challenging. The issue becomes an important condition rarity in MS68, as is apparent from the population data.
