Owner Comments:

The most common issue in the entire series, in overall mint state rarity, and the 2nd most common only to the 1946-D in high grade (MS 65 or better) mint state rarity. Also, the highest mintage coin in the entire series,. In 1943, the U.S. Mint halted the production of Proof coinage and focused on business strikes, because we were at the height of World War II. The luster is usually highly lustrous with vibrant, frosty surfaces. The strike runs the gamut of softly struck to needle sharp. Surfaces are usually smooth and pristine. Most are ice-white and brilliant or with lightly toned surfaces with only a small percentage being moderately to heavily toned.

Varieties:

V 101-Distorted Hub doubling

V 102-Doubled obverse. Date doubling is the strongest on the 9. It also has a re-punched 3.

V 103-Overdate 1943/42 or 1943/43

V 104-Shifted Liberty North.

V 105-Die crack from liberty's chin down to her chest.

V 106-Master die distorted hub doubling spread towards center.

The current example is brilliant with vibrant luster flow bands. The surfaces are VERY smooth. mark-free and clean and the strike is well above-average. My only superb gem specimen to date.

About 25,000 known in all mint sate grades.

A common coin from an investment standpoint, even in MS 67 grades, which are not difficult to obtain. Although, MS 68s are quite conditionally scarce, as only a handful exist.

PCGS Population-487/6 & NGC Census-580/17 in MS 67 as of 8/15.

Mintage is at 53,190,000
