Owner Comments:

The public objections to the appearance of Victor David Brenner's initials on the reverse of the Lincoln Cent in 1909 resulted in rapid adjustment. The offending letters were removed from the bottom of the reverse thus creating the "Plain" type Lincoln Wheat Cent. This change was made on the Matte Proof coins as well, This prompted collectors to order additional minor coin Proof sets, which contained the cent and the nickel. It is for that reason that the 1909 Liberty Nickel has the highest Proof coin mintage in the series.

The coin shown above is an almost flawless example of the 1909 Plain Lincoln Cent in Matte Proof.
