Chief Mint Engraver, Robert Scott was never one of John Reich’s fans. Reich worked at the mint for almost a decade. During that time he never received a raise or a promotion.

In 1816 Scott replaced Reich’s Classic Head cent design with the Matron Head, which was one of Scott’s creations. I think this design was a step backward from the esthetic point of view.

The coin shown above has very lustrous light brown surfaces with only a few minor spots. There is a limited amount of red in the protected devices. The die variety is "N-8 and 1/4"
