1901 PCGS MS61 DMPL VAM-13The date is a foremost rarity in mint state to start, a key in the series. As a prooflike it is an ultrararity. This specimen is the ONLY DMPL certified. I believe it is the one previously in the Spokane Collection.VAM-13 is one of the C4/C3 reverses with a prominent doubled olive. The other C4/C3 reverses for the date only have a shallow ghost of the second olive. Many other features are doubled as well, notably the eagle's eye and nostril as well as the olive branch and arrows.Despite the fact that this lone DMPL has mild contrast between fields and devices, the mirrors are quite deep. I can read the grey sheet from a foot away using it. It also claims a good strike. Liberty's hair is very struck up. The eagle's breast feathers are just short of fully struck. Weakness is noted in the stars by the date, typical for many Philadelphia and New Orleans dates between 1890 and 1902.
