As with the America the Beautiful quarters, Presidential Prooflikes before 2013 are much scarcer than many of their modern counterparts. I’m not sure why. Most of the PL’s graded are from the first year, 2007. Even in 2007, most of the PL’s are from George Washington Denver mint coins, roughly half of the prooflikes for the entire series! In 2013, something must have changed at the mint – PLs become increasingly more common. In 2015, for example, even DPLs are extremely common.
Given that, my coin is a 2013 Theodore Roosevelt dollar. I chose Roosevelt because he was significant in numismatic history, and propelled some of the greatest design changes in the history of our coinage (for more information, I highly recommend reading Roger Burdette’s “Renaissance of American Coinage.”). As with the State and ATB quarters, the extremely wide range of design options give great flexibility in customizing your set. My coin is well struck with deep mirrors, and is quite an attractive coin.
