Based only on reported slab populations, this is the 2nd. rarest coin in the 1850 mint set. NGC has only slabbed 39 coins of this date in all grades. Unfortunately, most of this mintage was lost to the melting pot when the silver content of the coin exceeded face value.

Breen 3979 misplaced thin date, open "5" variety. The base of a misplaced "1" can be easily seen on the rim outside the dentils. Breen calls this variety "Ex. rare".
