Owner Comments:

This is the second year of the Silver Panda. The 1983 thru 85 pandas were all minted in proof quality with 27 grams of 0.900 fine silver and a diameter of 38.6mm. The obverse side of the coin depicts a Mother Panda with her cub at her side and the face value. The reverse of the coin includes the Temple of Heaven with the year of issue. It is also interesting to note that only the 1983 thru 85 silver pandas had the reverse design of the coin rotated 180 degrees from the obverse side. Another interesting fact is that during the first 3 years the date slightly increased in size.

Mintage was only 10,000 at the China Mint Co. The low mintage has kept the value of this silver panda relatively high.

Comment:
The design during the first three years was simple but eloquent making the coins some of my favorites. The quality of coins struck at the China Mints during this time period was less than present minting facilities making this coin rare to find in high grades. Only (1) PF70 has been certified.
