Owner Comments:
This is the first year that the $5 Liberty was struck at the New Orleans mint. 40,120 pieces were struck, 4,620 Broad Mill pieces and the remaining 35,500 struck with smaller collars and referred to as Narrow Mill. While not attributed as such this piece appears to be Variety Three: Narrow Mill. The coin is slightly less than 22mm in diameter and the mintmark is small and round. It is placed over the V in FIVE. It also has the diagnostic raised die lines between the border and the letters in STATES and the clash mark between the right wing and the eagles lower beak. This variety is considered rare in all grades. Purchased July 2014 from Gary Adkins.
