Ex. Saddle Ridge Hoard. CAC Approved. In original holder with gold foil label. This 1888-S double eagle has a deep prooflike obverse with cameo devices and an especially strong strike. The reverse is very frosty with strong cartwheel luster. I have seen many hundreds of prooflike double eagles (the Grandview collection has more than 40 different prooflike examples), and this coin shows the most dramatic difference in obverse-reverse surface character that I have ever seen in a double eagle.
