Owner Comments:

Not the 1885 but by far the lowest mintage. The second of the branch mint nickels. First made in San Francisco. Released to some local fanfare, with the first struck used to activate an electric "street car" to climb a local hill with dignitaries aboard. Of note the first coins commonly called nickels were the flying eagle cents.
