Early Releases.

Shenandoah National Park was formally established in 1935 and covers part of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. This park encompasses the Shenandoah River on the west side, and the rolling hills of the Virginia piedmont on the east. It features many waterfalls, viewpoints, and deciduous woodlands. It provides habitat for a wide variety of wildlife including Black Bear.

The Shenandoah National Park quarter is the second of 2014 and the 22nd overall in the ATB Program. The reverse design depicts a hiker standing on an overlook at Little Stony Man cliffs. Inscriptions are SHENANDOAH, VIRGINIA, 2014 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

This isn’t one of my favorites. The polished area on lower third of the coin looks like it should be water or sky - - something shiny or smooth. I think what it’s really representing is relief in rock outcrop - - a landing. It took me awhile to figure out what I was looking at.
