View Coin 1994 P Nickel SP in Coin & Currency Set United States 5C 1994 P NGC SP 70 The 1994P Jefferson Nickel with an enhanced finish was only available in the initial "coin and currency" set issued by the mint with a Jefferson commemorative silver dollar and $2 bill. 1994 is the 250th anniversary of his birth. This coin is considered a semi-key date Jefferson with only 167,703 minted.

This coin is not a business strike and should only be allowed in type sets that allow proofs. Or count it as a non-proof, I do not care as long as you don't do both! I made NGC aware of the issue, but they seem to think it is both a proof and a non-proof. As Spock would say, "that is highly illogical."
View Coin 1996 W Dime in Mint Set United States 10C 1996 W NGC MS 68 FT The Roosevelt dime remained popular when the silver composition was changed to nickel clad in 1965. No mint mark was used in 1965-1967, and coins struck in West Point intermittently from 1977-1979 also did not have a mint mark making them indistinguishable from coins struck in Philadelphia. Starting in 1980, all coins except the cent were supposed to have a mint mark.
This coin type ranks 2nd most common of 20th century types accounting for almost 10% of all coins produced.

This West Point example is popular with collectors as it was the only business strike from the 20th century to have the W mint mark. It was only issued with mint sets and never meant to be in circulation. It was released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Roosevelt dime.
View Coin 1997 P Nickel SP in Coin & Currency Set United States 5C 1997 P NGC SP 70 The special issue Jefferson nickels of 1994 and 1997 have a unique matte finish. The 1997 Botanical Garden issue has a mintage of only 25 thousand which is the fifth smallest of the entire Jefferson nickel series. Only the proofs issues from 1938-1941 have smaller mintage numbers.

This flawless example represents a small number of SP70 graded nickels without any toning. This is my favorite Jefferson nickel.
View Coin 1998 S Half Dollar SP in Kennedy Set United States 50C 1998 S SILVER NGC SP 70 This special matte-finish Kennedy half dollar was issued only in the "Kennedy Collector's Set" with a commemorative RFK silver dollar. It was released in 1998 to recognize Bobby's assassination 30 years prior.

It's finish is unique among all other Kennedy half dollars, and it has the lowest mintage making it a collector's favorite.

NGC scores the 1998S SP Kennedy half-dollar and 1994P/1997P Jefferson nickels inconsistency between the non-proof, proof, and combined type sets. Although I do not agree with them, it is a nice change of pace to see this special finish included in the competition.
