Owner Comments:

A unique 2 pattern coin in the series that is predominantly made up of 1 penny denominations. In this series it is rare to obtain a proof with the majority graded as mint state. The obv depicts the Transvaal coat of arms with the Dutch wording "Zuid Afrkaansche Republiek" translated into English this means "South African Republic". On the reverse is the lettering "Eendragt maakt magt" translated it means "Unity is strength". The two small mint marks on the reverse (flanking the date) depict a honeybee and a lion's head. The coin mass is 10.9 mg (fairly light), diameter of 30.48 mm and a thickness of 1.91 mm. In the collection there are MS62BN ranging up to MS64RB (brown to red brown seems the natural colour of the coin and there are no reports of alternative colors listed). Uniquely there is one PF64Bn in the collection. Hern's book references that only 50 were ever made.
