Owner Comments:

One pattern exists of the Transvaal dated 1890. There is an estimated 100 pieces in existence however both NGC and PCGS only indicate a smaller percentage have been graded (21 to 30). Given the huge number (100) it is difficult to imagine that numbers of 50 or more actually exist. Grades have known to have reached PF66 (only know of two) but throughout the ZAR series majority grades range from XF up to a high of PF65 (Rare and in this collection!). The obv features the Transvaal coat of arms and the reverse has a oak and laurel branch circling the denomination. There is a small "V" below the two branches. The coin composition is Bronze. The diameter is 30.48 mm, weight 9.48 gm and the thickness 2.18 mm. The coin appearance is a red/brown in nature and the motive is not cluttered which makes the pattern fairly elegant and of a good hand size. In this collection there are 4 proof (PF65 to PF63) and 3 Mint State (MS65 to MS64). All are of the Red brown colour.
