Owner Comments:

This coin was once part of the famous coin collection of "Col." E.H.R. Green. "Col." Green at one time owned all five of the 1913 Liberty Head Nickels. When "Col." Green died in 1936 his widow and sister fought over control of his estate which tied up the sale of his coins for several years. In early 1942, Eric P. Newman and B. G. Johnson, a St. Louis Coin Dealer, formed a partnership that purchased most of Col. Green's coins. The original envelope accompanying this coin shows that it was valued at $1 in 1942. This coin was sold at auction by the Eric P. Newman estate in Nov. 2013 where it realized $763.75.

This is the very rare Type 1 reverse where the "E" in "ONE" nearly touches the wreath. NGC has graded 156 dimes of this date and only two of them have the Type 1 reverse!. This MS-65 and one finer MS-67 coin.
