The Korean war was between the Republic of Korea, (South Korea) which was heavily supported by the United Nations, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), which was supported at times by China and Russia. At one time, the United States provided 88% of the soldiers that came to the aid of the South Koreans, the rest were from 20 members UN Nations. Because it was an undeclared war, President Harry S. Truman said it was a "Police action).
