Owner Comments:

The 1952 had by far the highest mintage in the WC series at just over 2 million pieces of which a little over half were distributed and the remainder sent back to the mint to be melted. (Bowers 2008). In spite of the huge mintage, its no secret that finding any WC date in MS67 or higher is a very difficult task. In fact WC's are much more scarce in superb gem than most commemoratives in general.

Looking at the current series pop/census data (6-12), we find the following. In the 12 coin WC sub series dates, NGC has certified only 41 total coins in MS67, 18 higher in 67* and a meager 5 in 68 ( 3 of which are 68*). PCGS data shows 20 in 67 & 2 in 67+, none higher. For both services the most commonest date is the 1952; NGC has certified only 21 in 67 including 7* coins & 2 in 68. PCGS has 7 in 67 including 1 in + grade. When examining these numbers its readily seen any 67 in the WC series is rare and any Star graded or 68's are more so. Kind of similar to looking at full head Standing Liberty quarters where even the common dates such as the 1930 aren't really all that common.

This specimen is a rare Star certified and phenomenally toned wonder coin! The obverse displays rich target toning consisting of rich hues of cranberry, violet, aqua and gold. The toning is viewed in consistent and concentric rings of color that are each unbroken, uniform, and that flow into the next color ring. The reverse displays equally beautiful tones with a more dominant green center. The luster is very strong with the colors booming from the surfaces. The marks are few and mainly hidden by the color. This resplendent example has been awarded the coveted ‘star’ designation, and with good reason.

Population: NGC: 23 in MS67 (includes 7* & 1+ /* ), 1 in 68*. PCGS: 7 in 67 ( includes 1 in 67+). CAC: 3, 0 higher. (10-12)
