Date/mm Information: Frosty and Lustrous
Coin Description: Some light marks are scattered across the surfaces limiting the grade to MS66. Both sides are enveloped by a gorgeous patina comprised of mixed grey-gold and ice blue. A strong strike, full steps, and robust luster combine with the alluring toning to create a strong visual impression.
Comments: While Bowers and Nagengast state that quality examples exist and that those with granular surfaces should be avoided, this collector has found that premium gems are very elusive for this date. The total population (12/2011) for both services including full step coins is only 121/13. And consider that Heritage has never offered an MS671948 Jefferson Nickel for sale in auction. The current example is one of the finest and certainly most attractive 1948 Jefferson Nickels available.
