Date/MM Information: Most while lustrous have rough areas and other problems and often marks are remnant planchet flaws.
Coin Description: Both sides of this highly lustrous premium gem are blanketed in a patina displaying shades of peach, olive, and dove grey. Some planchet roughness exists on the jawline and central devices of Monticello. Otherwise, the coin is very clean with only very minor distractions. Well struck with alluring eye appeal.
Comments: It is coins like this one that call attention to the disparity in grading standards between NGC and PCGS. Of the 166 1946 Jefferson Nickels graded by NGC (12/2011), this is only one of 8 examples to achieve the lofty grade of MS67. And while I doubt that PCGS would award a top pop grade to this coin, it would almost certainly be a candidate for an MS66+ grade. There can be no doubt that this is one of the finest preserved 1946 nickels in existence.
