Owner Comments:

Modeled by Anthony de Francisi, the same artist who designed the Peace Dollar, the Maine commemorative celebrates the 100th anniversary of Maine's entrance into the union as part of the 1820 Missouri Compromise. Some interesting obverse motifs on this coin are the replica of the state arms with a pine tree and moose on a shield, as well as a person holding a scythe which symbolizes agriculture. A 2nd person with an anchor represents commerce from the fisheries of the Atlantic Ocean. The reverse depicts a wreath that many experts believe to be of pine for Maine's name as, "The Pine Tree State." This coin is among the very finest for the type as there are only 3 * NGC graded coins over the past 20+ years. One coin resides in the J&L #1 NGC registry type and long sets. This particular coin has been reversed slabbed up with the wreath side as the "obverse" due to its superior eye appeal. This Maine also possesses wonderful eye appealing toning, it has a pretty band of concentric circular rim and edge toning in hues of red, green, russet & gold. Flecks of pine green are seen above the Maine legend. The reverse side has russet crimson coloration from 4-10 oclock, with a swath of red, gold & russet color on the left legends. The surfaces have satiny laid back luster and the fields /devices are mostly clean, save some very tiny pin marks. The strike is above average. * graded by NGC; CAC certified.

Population: NGC 32 (includes 4 in 67*), 1 in 68. PCGS: 21 in 67 (includes 1 67+). CAC: 8, 0 higher. (10-12)
