VAM-1A NGC MS64 DPL (DIE FLAKE IN 8)



Not a particularly valuable example of this date. I actually bid on it sight-unseen as the description sounded like a potential unattributed branch mint proof. I figured for the price, I'd at least have a nice coin for not much investment. Well, it wasn't a proof. But it is a nice coin for the price.



Brilliant, very well struck, lustrous with frost. Has a few dark streaks, one notable on the eagle's breast, which probably fully account for the grade. Moderate cameo contrast. Very nice example of this usually bagmarked date. Very tough with this quality. My notes from 1995, which I will need to review with the coin, say that this appeared to be a VAM-1A obverse paired with the VAM-3 reverse.
