250th Anniversary of Birth of George Washington - 1982.
From my own personal collection.
With silver prices being what they are lately, even down from the high of over $20 per ounce back around 03/08/2008, I thought I should start sending more of my coins to be graded. It not only allows me to add them to my sets, but preserves them from any potential environmental damage. Not to mention that if I get some high grade coins, it's good to know for insurance purposes, or if I want to sell any!
In this case, it REALLY PAID OFF! I cleared about a dozen of these from a safe deposit box, in Mint State and Proof, and found TWO PF70UC out of the deal! Just waiting for NGC to return the coins with the CD that has the photos to add those. I know they aren't THE most valuable collectible around, but Washington gets a lot of attention lately, being the first Presidential dollar, and this 1982 half dollar was the first modern commemorative issued by the mint in 50 years or so (which is why I think I have so many). I think I may have even more in another safe deposit box.
Interestingly, I checked the NGC census report on this coin, and NGC has NOW graded 4,4481 (up by 118 from when I submitted my coins) of these proof coins. Of those, only 221 have made a 70 grade, so I guess I should be pleased that of the batch I submitted, that even TWO of them earned a PF70UC!
