NGC US Coin Census for Barber Half Dollars (1892-1915)

Owner Comments:

Among business strike Barber half dollars of the Philadelphia Mint, the 1913 through 1915 issues are recognized as important rarities. What is not recognized by most collectors, except for advanced specialists, is the rarity and importance of the 1910 half dollar issue. Four of the five lowest mintage Barber half dollars were productions of the Philadelphia Mint, these five issues including 1914, 1915, 1913, 1892-O, and 1910, from lowest to highest mintage.
How this applies to Proof coins depends on your perspective. Many collectors working on high quality sets of these coins may elect to add a Gem Proof example to fill the Philadelphia Mint holes, given the elusive nature of business strikes. This adds additional demand for these coins, above the demand applied by collectors of just the proof issues. This remarkable example has spotlight contrast on its obverse and deeply mirrored fields on the reverse. The coloration is mixed exotics. The surfaces are exceptional without blemishes of any nature. Pop: 6, none finer
