1840 50C Sm Letters Reverse of 1839 Repunched 40 with the 4 doubled and the 0 tripled. The 4 and 0 are both sharply repunched. The 4 shows evidence of doubling below the base and crossbar of the prominent 4. Sharply struck except on the peripheral stars on the left side of the obverse. FS-50-1840-301, WB 102. This coin crossed; ex ANACS 58 2368765. ANACS Census for generic 1840 in AU58 (2/0). Combined PCGS and NGC population 18/74 (NOV 08).
