Owner Comments:
The 1876 Philadelphia mint trade dollar has been found in three different varieties; Type 1 obverse with a Type 1 reverse, Type 1 obverse with a Type 2 reverse and a Type 2 obverse with a Type 2 reverse. On the Type 1 obverse, Ms. Liberty has only 3 fingers and the banner ends containing the word Liberty point to the left. On the Type 2 obverse, Ms. Liberty has 4 fingers and the banner ends point down. The Type 1 reverse has a bud showing under the eagle's left claw. The Type 2 reverse has no such bud showing under the claw.
This coin is a type 1 obverse married to a type 2 reverse and seems to be the most common of the three varieties. The type 2 obverse married to the type 2 reverse is scarce.
