Owner Comments:

NGC graded MS 65 BN, EAC MS62
Variety: N-6, die state b
Ex: Frankenfield, Rasmussen

This is a nice coin. Except for slight weakness in some of the stars, it is well struck. There is a tiny, dark-toned planchet flaw at star 10. There are no notable contact marks, and the luster is good.

This coin appeared for direct sale by Heritage shortly after their sale of the Rasmussen collection in January 2005. I "settled" for it after losing the MS67BN that's now in one of the higher ranked sets (see the description of my 1842 cent for more info). But I am certainly happy to have it!

From the Heritage catalog:
1840 1C Large Date MS65 Brown NGC. MS62 EAC. N-6, Die State B, R.1.
A middle die state with recutting on 40 visible, along with an extension from the western point of star 3. Generally sharp with a few of the stars weakly defined. The fields have frosty luster with olive-brown color, wisps of pale blue and iridescent toning, and splashes of deep orange mint luster on the obverse. A small planchet flake is noted just above star 10, described in the Frankenfield catalog as a dark depression due to an impurity in the planchet.
