Owner Comments:
This is the Overton O-112 variety, which is the most common variety found for the 1805 Half Dollar. This date is usually found in VF or less conditions as these coins were heavily circulated in normal business transactions. The Overton O-112 variety is easily identified by having a large "5" in the date, five berries on the reverse and normal unbroken serifs on the "A"s on the reverse lettering and a normal foot on the "F" of "OF". Some coins, such as this one, also have a die break across the top of the date as the obverse die began to fail. The desirability of this coin is enhanced by the sharp strike on the hair curls and the full strike on the feathers and shield lines.
