Owner Comments:

NGC graded MS 65 RB
Variety: N-1, die state b

Unlike many mint state 1857 large cents I have seen, this piece is fairly well struck throughout, including full, sharp LIBERTY and coronet tip. The toning is a little uneven, but there is a good amount of original color, easily justifying the RB designation.

I bought this coin from Butternut (Col. Steve Ellsworth) at a Baltimore show. He typically has a lot of nice "collector grade" material, plus several higher grade pieces, like this one. Indeed, it was an 1850 65RB cent I found at the Butternut table at the March 2004 Baltimore show that led me to refocus my recently rekindled love of coins toward building a nice set of large cents.
