Owner Comments:

NGC graded MS 66 BN, EAC MS63
Variety: N-9, die state c

This coin has great luster, is well struck throughout, and has an almost prooflike obverse field. The only mentionable defects are two small areas of darker toning in Liberty's hair.

This coin appeared in Superior's January 2005 auction. It was one of four large cents for which I had placed the high pre-sale internet bids. I lost the other three during the live auction, but got this one. My 1842 cent was also in that auction, but I obtained it later through Heritage.

This coin is a slight upgrade to the first certified large cent I ever owned. That coin was graded MS65RB by NGC. I purchased it from Col. Steven Ellworth in March 2004 at my first coin show since high school. It was that coin that reignited my passion for large cents. Alas, it has been sold, but I now have many very nice old coppers!

From the Superior catalog:
1850 N-9 R2 NGC graded Mint State-66 Brown.
Lusterous bluish steel brown with satiny, nearly mark-free surfaces. The notable defects are a speck of carbon on the rim left of star 1 and a light scrape on the rim over star 8. Nicely struck LDS, die state c. The die crack at ME is clear. EAC grade MS63. (#1889)
