Just 470 proofs were struck in this year, not too surprising considering the attention of the nation was almost solely focused on the pivotal battles of the ongoing war.
Luminous peripheral bands of electric-blue, rose-violet, and golden-brown patina frame the brilliant centers. A razor-sharp near-Gem with well preserved fields and exceptional eye appeal. A scant 470 pieces were reported as struck, and far fewer among that number have survived with unimpaired surfaces. A pair of short lintmarks (as made) in the field between Liberty's leg and star 13 will identify this coin for pedigree purposes.
