Gorgeous FDR 'Blunt 9' silver proof dime with very bright surfaces, very strong strike, and no toning. Coin is essentially flawless except for a couple of minute scratches on FDR's cheek. Cost: $16.58 on 7/23/14 on eBay from

Variety is the more common of the two 1964 '9' varieties, created when new obverse hubs were introduced during 1964. Dimes produced during the early part of 1964 have a pointed tail on the 9 and a plain upper serif on the 1 in the date. Dimes produced during the remainder of the year exhibit a rectangular or blunt tail to the 9 and no serif on the 1 in the date.
