The 1947 addition of the Red Book did a better job illustrating the difference between the "Small Letters" and "Large Letters" Versions of the 1858 Flying Eagle cent than do the current editions. The key diagnostic is the distance between the "A" and the "M" in America. Look at this and the next coin, the Small Letters and note that here the serif on the A touches the serif on the M in the Large Letters and on the Small Letters the serifs don't touch.
