Owner's Description

Purchased on 4/9/2015. 2000 International Numismatic Agency (INA) Retro-pattern Crown Collection (Sometimes referred to as the Spink "Patina" Collection) Mintage: 400 pieces in 0.925 Silver Edge hallmark: London Assay Office (LAO), Sterling (925) Silver, London, Year 2000 Initiated in 1999, there was an idea to produce an official series of six legal tender Millennial coins for a Commonwealth country, like the Solomon Islands or Zambia, which would feature the six monarchs of the twentieth century; Victoria, Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII, George VI and Elizabeth II. British Sculptor Donald R. Golder completed the task of sculpting twenty Royal portraits, which were inspired by contemporary coinage models. The obverse of this retro-pattern (modern fantasy piece) was one of the those designs executed by Donald R. Golder around 1999. The reverse of this piece is based on the reverse trial or model for a George V Pattern Crown, (c.1910) by Allan Gairdner Wyon. The design is that of a stylised St George in flowing cloak on horseback, plunging lance into dragon, initials A.G.W. to lower right (initials are not present on this fantasy piece), with toothed border. The execution of these fantasy pieces is superb.
