Owner's Description

Medal, 1890, Gilt AE, WHIPPLE SO-CALLED DOLLAR or BLAND-ALLISON TRADE DOLLAR, United States. Made for C.M. Whipple and Co., (A maker of Whips) in Westfield, Mass. HK-832, NGC MS62, Cert# 3382771-004. One of those issues that falls through the cracks. There are many thoughts on this piece. Some people say this is a uncompleted shell or embossed store card, lacking the back which was used for advertising. Even the date of issue is in dispute, experts indicating as early as 1885 to as late as 1900. This pleasant example has traces of the original luster remaining. Listed as "rare" in Hibler-Kappen. Obv. Spread-winged eagle, similar to that of a Morgan Dollar of 1878-1921, above "Legal Tender", Border Legend Around. Uniface, incuse.
