Owner's Description

Turkey – Ottoman Empire Abdul Hamid II - AH1293-1327/1876-1909 AD 100 Kurush – AH1293/30 or 1906 AU-55 KM-730 Census - This is the 100K of this variety and date certified by NGC Obv. – Toughra: “el-Ghazi” to right Rev. – Text, value and date within wreath, star above – mint Qustantiniyah This coin was issued by the Ottoman Empire (The Sublime Ottoman State) which lasted until October 29, 1923. At the height of its power, in the 16th and 17th centuries, it controlled territory in southeastern Europe, southwestern Asia, and North Africa. With Constantinople as its capital city, and vast control of lands around the eastern Mediterranean during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent (ruling from 1520 to 1566), the empire was at the center of interactions between the Eastern and Western worlds for six centuries. The Ottoman Empire came to an end, as a regime under an imperial monarchy, on November 1, 1922. It formally ended, as a de jure state, on July 24, 1923, under the Treaty of Lausanne. It was succeeded by the Republic of Turkey, which was officially proclaimed on October 29, 1923. A beautiful coin in a very nice grade. I have no idea how many specimens of this type coin remain uncirculated (NGC has graded just three UNC's out of 12 submitted) but KM does not provide values for grades above XF.
