Owner's Description

A 1987 Dated Lincoln Cent. A near perfect foldover struck coin - Suppose a planchet was somehow jolted and started to spin vertically inside the coin chamber and while spinning, the dies struck the coin. The immense power of the strike would cause the coin to buckle and fold while receiving the impressions from the dies. This is the best explanation the mint experts can offer. Although, no one has ever seen this senario happen, but some mint personnel have seen spinning planchets on the top of the press collars.
