Set Description
"This is preeminently the time to speak the truth, the whole truth, frankly and boldly. Nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today. This great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."
-- Franklin Delano Roosevelt at his inauguration as the 32nd President of the United States, March 4, 1933
Presented here are the highest-graded coins from The Fear Itself Collection, a large assembly of circulation issue silver Roosevelt dimes from the 1946 to 1964 production run. I began putting this anthology together in early 2013 with the goal of building a significant silver Roosevelt dime collection consisting of high-grade coins with good eye-appeal.
The design on the reverse of the Roosevelt dime is really interesting to me. Flanked on both sides by the olive branch (signifying peace) and the oak branch (signifying strength) is the great torch, a symbol of enlightenment.
In total, The Fear Itself Collection currently contains over 125 professionally-certified Roosevelt dimes with 90% graded MS 66 or higher and 30% graded MS 67 or higher. About 40% of the coins in the collection have a FT or FB designation and it contains over 20 coins with well-known pedigrees including the Benson Collection, the Omaha Bank Hoard, the Binion Collection, Nick Cascio, the Teich Family Collection, and the Richmond Collection, among others.
The entire collection is presented here in the NGC Registry; divided into three separate competitive sets and a custom set. The coins listed in this primary set are the highest graded in the collection.
