Set Description
This Long Set of Commemoratives is unmatched in both quality and color.
Many of the coins you are about to view are pedigreed to Helen Carmody, Anthony Swiatek, JFS, Jewell, Bruce Scher, David Schweitz, Larry Shepherd and other recognized 'Greats' in the commemorative field. Our 144 piece 'Commemorative Set' also includes Norse Thin (66) & Thick (66) plus Isabella PR-66, 92-Columbian PR-66CAM, Hawaiian PR-64, New Rochelle PR-68, Gold Norse Matt PR-67. This collection has been 25 plus years in the making. Our sights have been set on impeccable quality combining both strike and luster. A majority of the coins in this collection have been graced with magnificent color as though touched by the hand of God Himself! Two note worthy events, late in 2005 the Las Vegas Collection assembled by David Schweitz was purchased by J&L. In May of 2006, Christine Karstedt (President of American Numismatic Rarities) and her Chief Photographer (Doug Plasencia)* flew to Las Vegas to photograph this collection. The pictures are to be used as plates in a book on commems to be written by Q. David Bowers and Larry Shepherd. Stay tuned.

* Thank you to Doug Plasencia, chief photographer at ANR for doing most of the photography. ** Of special interest- In its 20-year history, NGC has awarded a grade of MS69 or MS69* to exactly five classic commemorative coins. One is an Isabella quarter, now in a PCGS MS68 holder and no longer available as an NGC-certified coin. The records show one special 1938-D Boone graded MS69 . A single 1937-D Oregon commemorative has achieved MS69 as well. Surprisingly, the other two pieces belong to the same issue: not the Norfolk, a logical guess, but the Antietam. PCGS has graded just 3 classic commemoratives in the grade of MS-69- 38-D Oregon, 37-D Oregon and 38-D Boome. In our three commemorative registry sets, NGC Long, NGC Short and PCGS Short, J&L is proud to house an example of each of these coins with the exception of 38-D Oregon in NGC 68 STAR. Note- recently NGC attributed a grade of MS-69 to a Norfolk, it has been added to the J&L Registry!
Of note- PCGS and NGC combined have only graded 9 Commems with an MS-69 in the 1892-1954 Complete Set (144Pcs), 6- 69's at NGC- Isabella-1, Antietam-2, 38-D Boone-1 and 37-D Oregon-1 and Norfolk-1. PCGS has graded only 3 69's in this set- 38-D Boone-1, 37-D Oregon-1 and 38-D Oregon-1. Of the 6 different coins known in MS-69 J&L has an example of each with the exception of 38-D Oregon, one of which exists in a PCGS MS-69 holder. Will the owner plz. step forward and sell it to us? We would be willing to make a strong offer in the $2000 range??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
