Set Description

Inspired by a combination of my Father-in-law who collected stamps all of his life (completing a collection of every issue from his native country Lebanon - the very first one through 2005) and a story a friend told me about a grandfather who collected coins as a fun way to save money for his grandchildren. I began this my first collection of my favorite coins the GSA cc's. I am truly fascinated by these coins of the old west and hope to visit Carson City some day. For a fantastic history lesson on the Carson City mint copy and paste this this link into your browser- http://www.us-coin-values-advisor.com/carson-city-mint.html - you will learn about the Comstock Load, the building of the mint, the coins produced there, and other facts about the most famous coins in American History.

The Silver King... Leadville... Tombstone... Virginia City... Carson City... and the Comstock Lode... All names of legendary old west mines and mining towns. They are reminders of a special time in our nation’s history when the Wild West was still roamed by buffalos, Indians, cowboys, and frontiersmen in search of fame, fortune, and their piece of America.

Century-Old Collector Favorites
Through it all, Morgan Silver Dollars were the money they used. These coins jingled in the pockets of ordinary citizens, as well as famous men of the day– Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, and the writer Mark Twain who lived in Virginia City. Even wild west legends like Geronimo, Jesse James, Billy the Kid, and Buffalo Bill Cody carried these Silver Dollars.

The Birth of a New Silver Dollar in 1878
Morgan Silver Dollars are named for U.S. Mint designer George T. Morgan who created these classic and enduring reminders of our proud heritage.

The front bears the head of Miss Liberty crowned with a Phrygian cap decorated with wheat and cotton– staples of our young nation. Around the edges are 13 stars for the 13 colonies and the official year of issue.

On the reverse, an eagle stands proudly with its wings widespread with the mottos– In God We Trust, United States of America, and the Mint Mark (CC) just above the word dollar. The eagle bears the olive branch of peace in one talon and arrows in the other, representing America’s desire for peace and our willingness to fight for it.

The Morgan Silver Dollar is a treasure chest of history, art, and wealth. Since the day they were first minted, they’ve been destined to be a proud part of America’s frontier history.

Many thanks to all of the dealers, enthusiasts and collectors who have helped me find, aquire and learn much about the history and rarities of these handsomely preserved Morgan Silver Dollars. Collecting these has become a lifetime passion for me.
