Owner's Description

The 1991 type 2 can be considered the 95W of the BU Libertad set. To date this is the most expensive and elusive coin to aquire in high grade. Total population for ms69 is only 6 and i currently have custody of 3 of them. It is said there may be only a few hundred that exist as they were only sold in the sets that make up the 1 oz coins and fractionals. This coin is actually a mule as it uses the obverse and reverse designs from the 1992 1oz coin. The changes are seen in the word Onza where the O and Z are capitalized and the obverse, or what we recognize as the reverse has 8 dots on the leaf of the cactus plant. All other 1oz libertad coins prior to include the 1991 type 1 have the word onza in lower case and only 7 dots on the cactus plant. Since most libertads had weak strikes since 1982 and had high grades of only 67 or 68, the 1991 type 2 in MS69 is a true rarity in the libertad series.

The three 1991 type 2 coins I have are in all three of the 1oz libertad registry sets I have listed here.
