Owner's Description

Variety FS-301, 1853/2 overdate. Stack's Bowers (Aug 2012, Lot 12471) catalog description: "A variety so well known as to have been included in the Guide Book, the undertype 2 is visible within the lower loop of the 3, and while observable with the naked eye, magnification will be necessary for most people. Nevertheless, this is an overdate for which most collectors are willing to pay a substantial premium, and indeed, this coin will likely find a home in a high-end collection of the series. Crisply impressed from the dies, with the bulk of the primary designs standing in bold definition, one will observe a bit of rub over the high points and fields of this AU piece. Scattered abrasions and ticks dot both sides, however none stand out from the rest as particularly noteworthy.”
