Owner's Description

The 1897 is one of the more available half eagles from the 1890’s. Even so, it is difficult to find properly graded high end examples. There are only ten coins graded higher than the current coin (all MS66). The current example has rich, frosty luster on both surfaces. The strike is full except for minor weakness on several of the stars. The color is light orange gold, with some richer orange toning, particularly on the reverse. Purchased from Sanders Trading.
