Owner's Description

Winter Variety One. Only 10,000 half eagles were produced at the New Orleans Mint in 1892 and fewer than 100 exist today. It is the rarest half eagle produced in the US after 1877. It is very scarce in MS62 and only two coins have been graded finer. This is a very “flashy” coin with outstanding frosty luster. Draped in a very pale greenish-gold hue, there are undertones of yellow-gold visible at indirect light angles. Bowers and Merena 11/06: 3816.
