Owner's Description

Winter Variety 1. This is a textbook example of an 1848-C (as long as you’re using Doug Winter’s “Gold Coins of the Charlotte Mint 1838 – 1861" [Third Edition] as your textbook). The strike is weak at the centers and the surfaces show a number of abrasions. The base color of this coin is yellow gold with slightly richer yellow gold toning in the fields. The protected areas display a lightly frosted luster. A very pleasant example of a scarce date. GreatCollections 7/13: 116670.
